First trip to the dentist

Max went to the dentist for the first time on Tuesday.  He didn't actually get his teeth cleaned yet but instead had a "quick look" to make sure everything was OK.  Dr. MacMaster said his teeth look great!  The focus of the appointment was on making the dentist a positive experience.  We went to a pediatric dentist, and they know exactly how to cement themselves in a child's heart!!  They have a bona fide arcade in their office, in addition to a movie theater with stadium seating (where they were playing Kung Fu Panda).  At each of the cleaning stations, a flat screen TV was mounted high up on the wall and angled toward the chair so that the kids can watch a movie while they are getting their teeth cleaned!  On the day that we were there, they were showing Cars, and Max astutely pointed out that Dr. "Mac" (as he is affectionately nick-named) was just like Mack Truck from the movie :-)  My favorite line from the visit, though, was Max's response when asked by the dental technician if he had any siblings...  He swiftly replied, "Not yet"!  Does he have some sort of plan he would like to share with me???!!!  So funny!  He was excited to earn two stickers, a toothbrush, and a blue glittery ball.  All in all, a very successful first trip to the dentist!

This picture cracks me up because you can see the very traditional, standard doctor's waiting room in the background with the awesome arcade in the foreground!  Where were the dentist offices like this when we were kids???!!!  I loved my dentist growing up, though--his name was Neil Diamond (no joke), and he had long hair and drove a motorcycle!

The kid was in heaven :-)  I only hope he never has to find out the painful truth of the dentist's office!!!  He is going to feel so duped!

Here he is with his new T-Mater toothbrush, which he hand-selected because...you guessed it...it was BLUE!
